Wine Tasting

Set high in the mountains of Andalusia, La Serranía de Ronda is one of Spain’s most distinctive and historic wine regions. With bodegas among the highest in the country, a dramatic landscape of limestone soils, and a winemaking tradition dating back over 2,000 years, Ronda produces wines of freshness, character, and remarkable sense of place.

Below are five of our favourite bodegas to visit. Each bodega offer something truly unique, whether in its setting, winemaking philosophy, or choice of grape varieties, and are all open to visitors.

Cortijo Los Aguilares

Cortijo Los Aguilares is a family-run winery set in the heart of La Serranía de Ronda, surrounded by an 800-hectare estate of holm oak forest and dramatic countryside. Located at over 900 metres above sea level between two natural parks, its vineyards benefit from exceptional biodiversity and a unique mountain microclimate, allowing for the cultivation of a wide range of grape varieties and the production of distinctive, high-quality wines.

It is one of our favourite local bodegas not only for its wines, but for the exceptional experiences it offers. Cortijo Los Aguilares hosts thoughtfully curated events that link wine tasting with the history and culture of the region—our favourite being their wine tasting combined with stargazing, guided by a professional astronomer. They also offer guided walks through the estate that conclude with a wine tasting, with a particular highlight being the walk to their hilltop cabin, which offers spectacular views over La Serranía de Ronda. The team is extremely knowledgeable and welcoming, and tours are available in both English and Spanish.

Bodega Kieninger

One of the most interesting bodegas in the Serranía de Ronda is Bodega Kieninger. This Bodega opened in 2000 by Martin Kieninger, an Austrian who moved to Andalusia in 1993. With a keen interest in biodiversity and ecological winemaking, Bodega Kieninger only produces 100% organic. This means that the winemaking process avoids any use of pesticides or other non-organic farming methods. The result is a range of wines that taste fresh and natural and stay true to the unique souls and climate of La Serranía de Ronda.

Bodega Kieninger is very much a family run bodega, and their ethos very much reflects our own. A visit to this bodega is especially recommended for guests interested in organic farming, and for those who would like to experience winemaking on a smaller, family-runs cale, where everything is done with care and close attention to details.

Vinos Conrad

Vinos Conrad is one of the most established bodegas in the Ronda region. Founded in 2000, it was among the pioneers of the modern revival of winemaking in La Serranía de Ronda and played a key part and played a key role in putting the region back on Spain’s wine map. Today, Vino Conrad produces some of the most popular and widely enjoyed wines from the region. Their wines can be found in nearly all local restaurants and are familiar names on wine lists throughout Ronda and the surrounding area.

Here at Molino, we consider Vinos Conrad to be one of the region’s standout bodegas. This is reflected in our wine list, which features three of their wines, including Conrad Niño Leon, our popular house red wine.

Bodega Doña Felisa

Bodega Doña Felisa is located at around 900 meters above sea level, set between three natural parks and close to the Roman ruins of Acinipo. Doña Felisa works with a wide range of local and international grape varieties, and the vines tend to be harvested entirely by hand and grapes picked at night to protect them from the heat.

As part of the visit to Bodega Doña Felisa, guests are taken through the estate’s museum, where you’ll learn about the history of winemaking in the region, from its Roman origin to the tradition of locally produced cork.

We absolutely love the wine from Doña Felisa, and some of our more popular wines on our menu is from this bodega.
